  • The Art of the Chinese Garden
    The Art of the Chinese Garden

    Children will learn about the 3,000 yr old art of Chinese Garden design, and explore the garden with a scavenger hunt of classical features. They will enjoy mooncakes with thier lunch, break to play in the Children's Garden, then paint traditionally Chinese Ink Wash watercolor pieces to take home.

    Children will be given a scavenger hunt with which to navigate Griffith Observatory, have astronaut freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches for dessert, watch the astronomical screening in the Planetarium, and create their own glowing star night light.
  • Socializing Shelter Cats, for ages 7+
    Socializing Shelter Cats, for ages 7+

    Children will visit a cat cafe to help socialize the shelter cats there, and after lunch, enjoy a dessert the cafe offers. Following, they will set up and execute a hilarious community fundraiser to raise funds for an animal shelter. There will be a follow-up Zoom call for the group one week later.
  • Biomes and Ecosystems

    Children will be given a list of features about several plants and the biome each requires, then search the garden ecosystems to find their names, learning about many biomes in the process. After lunch they will try a prickly pear dessert, then each create their own mini polyculture terrariums.

    Children will discuss and explore the answer to this question in the Modern Art Exhibit at LACMA, complete a scavenger hunt that asks them to find pieces that make them feel cozy, excited, etc, have lunch on the lawn and play at a local park before completing their own abstract piece on canvas.

    On this half-day event, children will learn about Assyrian culture and history by piecing together an imaginary storyline using their Field Guide as a proxy to exploring the 3,000 year old reliefs. Then, they will create their own relief pieces out of clay.

    Beginning in the Miocene, hominids are introduced for their biological and intellectual ingenuity. Students will learn that there were once up to a dozen hominid species, of which only Homo Sapiens remain. They will have opportunities to create tools, pottery, and art just as ancient humans did.

The Cosmic Citizens Club is a curation of educational Immersions that inspire children to connect deeply with their home here in the cosmos.

Every Cosmic Citizens Club Immersion dives into a subject, culture, environment, or creative expression of humanity, with guided prompts and activities to facilitate intellectual and embodied engagement of all senses and faculties.

Inspired by the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori and designed for children ages six to twelve.
